Google Stacking: Do Google Drive Stacks Work in 2022?

by | Jul 19, 2022

As with most things—it depends. The hype men and fangirls of Google stacking all seem to sell products or services that have something to do with Google entity stacking. Curious. Disclaimers aside, there SEOs on either side of the Google stacking debate.

Some swear by it, and others scoff at the thought of wasting their time on such frivolous nonsense. A few things to consider before employing Google Stacking on your website include:

  • The difficult of your niche or vertical?
  • Will incremental gains move the needle enough to be worth the investment?

In SEO, finding new and creative ways to pass link juice from one property to another seems to always be a worthwhile endeavor. However, is the juice from Google Entity Stacking worth the squeeze, or would your time be better spent elsewhere? Read on to find out.

Overview of Google Stacking and entities.

What Are Google Stacks & How They Compare To Link Building?

If you spend any amount of time scrolling SEO blogs and watching YouTube videos of your favorite guru dominating the SERPS, you are undoubtedly familiar with the concept of domain authority.

Domain authority is a metric in search engine optimization developed by Moz that is used industry-wide to measure the likelihood of a site ranking for a given term.

The traditional way of boosting your domain authority is building backlinks to your website from authoritative domains. Backlinks lend some of the linking domains credibility to your site, elevating your domain rating and credibility in the eyes of Google.

But enough about backlinks, you can learn about that shit anywhere. For the rest of this article, I want to focus on Google stacks and how building entities can deliver similar results.

What is Google Stacking?

Google is, perhaps, one of most autorotative sites on the internet. And their other properties such as:

  • Google Docs
  • Photos
  • Sheets
  • Slides
  • MyMap
  • Sites
  • Calendar
  • Draw

Are not far off in terms of their level of trust and credibility online. What if, just maybe, we could borrow some of the sweet authority and pip it over to our websites? Enter google stacking!

Google Stacks are collections of Google apps, entitles, and properties that contain your company’s information that is “stacked” and made accessible to the public. It’s kind of sneaky. You are using a piece of Google’s credibility and adding it to your website.

What is Google Entity Stacking For SEO?

Google entity stacking for SEO is a strategy to increase domain authority by building backlinks on different Google platforms to other assets such as your company’s website. These entities include all content like Google Drive, Docs, Google Sheets, Google MyMap, Sites, YouTube, and more.

Is Google Stacking Safe?

Do not just take my word for it. Do your research before imprinting this strategy on your website. Google stacking is a white hat SEO technique and is considered safe by most SEOs. Because Google’s web properties have a massive amount of authority, links from these properties can bolster your site’s credibility.

What’s With The Names? Why Are Google Entity Stacks Called Google Drive Stacks Or Google Cloud Stack?

It’s the same thing as a good old Google Stack. Essentially, the asset stack you create is hosted by Google Drive or Google Cloud so whatever you choose to call them is correct. Remember that Entity stacks are the same as Drive Stacks– they refer to a digital asset created on a Google platform.

Before diving deeper into Google Stacking, you need to understand what traditional domain authority stacks are and how it differs from Google Entity Stacking.

Domain Authority Stacking: What Is It AND How Is It Different From Google Stacking?

It used to be possible to pack your page full of your target keyword and rank on page one of the SERPS. Not anymore. Google is increasingly placing importance on other factors such as EAT. Expertise, Authority, and Trust. Domain authority stacking addresses the last element of EAT—Trust. In essence, DAS is used to build trust in the eyes of Google, showing their bot that your site is trustworthy.

Some SEOs think Domain authority stacking is nonsense, while others warship the digital gods who brought it into being. If you would like to read more about the topic, here is a case study by Matt Diggity. It breaks down the technique and the results he achieved.

While the objective of DAS and Google Stacking is the same, to increase the level of trust Google has in your site, they differ in the source of the backlinks to your website. DAS backlinks originate from social media accounts and web 2.0 sites.

Because these sites are not Google properties, DAS can be a bit risker than Google Authority Stacking. With Google Stacking, you connect to Google portals, and Google is not in the business of denigrating its domains. The more links from Google sites, the more trust you get and the higher you rank.

How To Use Google Stacking To Increase The Visibility of Your Blog Posts?

Google stacking is a straightforward process. However, there are a few steps that you need to consider before jumping in a getting crazy with link building. Google Drive Stacking is not a black hat SEO strategy. But it’s not difficult to see how used as one. Use your best judgment and know what you’re signing up for.

Title your google site after your business plus your target keyword.

For your page title, find the title of your target site, or the website you want to link too. Some things to consider adding:

  • Title
  • Logo
  • Cover image
  • Add content
  • Description

As you can see, under the insert tap on the right side of the screen, there is an option to add all the entities you will build to this Google Site. Remember to add the same kind of info as you would put into a business listing.

I am going to cover adding one entity. Every other Google entity you add after follows the same process.

However, you might want to consider adding the following Google entities:

  • Create My Map
  • Docs
  • Sheets
  • Photos
  • Slides
  • YouTube
  • Calendar

Adding Google Entities

In the folder you created that contains your Google Site, click the plus icon, and crate a new Google Sheet.

Click Create and share.

Title the Sheet after your business name and relevant keywords.

Make columns called:

  • File Name
  • Target Terms
  • URLs

Add the name of the Google Entities You created in the first column. In the second column add the keyword that the Google Entity is targeting. And finally add the URL of the entity in the final column.

The URLs are the address from the Entities. For example, if you made a DOCs entity, you will take the URL of the Google Doc and paste it into the URL of the corresponding name in your Google Sheet.

Add Entitle Links to Web 2.0 Sites

Add the links from your Google Entities to Web 2.0 sites along with your money site. Some free Web 2.0 sites include:

  1. WordPress
  2. Webbly
  3. Blogger

This is the linking order you need to follow when using Google Drive Stacks.

  1. Link to your Google Entities from a web 2.0 site
  2. From your Google properties link to your Google Site
  3. From your google site link to your money site.

We are passing equity up the chain here. Think of your web 2.0 site as the base where the chain begins, moving to your Entity stack and Google Site onto your money site.

Just in case you need more info on creating Google Drive Stacks, here is a detailed tutorial that explains the entire process.

Conclusion: Google Stacking For Local SEO and Local business

Google stacking has a moderate impact on the trust of your website in the eyes of Google. However, considering the amount of work required to make one entity stack, it could be better to put your time and money into other areas. Citation links, blog posts, and other aspects of link building might yield more profitable results. However, if you are on a budget, Google Drive Stacking is a good way to start pumping up the authority of your money site.
